MINI EUROPE RALLY '98

In
six days form Amsterdam to Monaco! Mini maniacs from all over Europe compete in a treasure hunt
through five countries: Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy and Monaco. This really was a challenge
- not just a little holiday trip. Actually navigating and driving need all your concentration.
Additionally you have to answer questions - sometimes a bit tricky - or to compare photos in the
roadbook with the surroundings. Not an easy job, especially when driving against the clock to keep

MEN IN BLACK - the organisation
A word
about the organisation. It was simply perfect! It must be an immense work to do all the preparations
for such an event. Not only preparing the road book and searching for scenic roads between Amsterdam
and Monaco - they also found fantastic hotels (mainly 4-star). All in all a perfect week!

MY "COMPETITION MINI" Of course frequent visitors of Minis On The Web will see that this Mini isn't mine.Only two weeks before the start of the Mini Europe Rally I damaged my Mini seriously at a construction site in the city. Although I drove very careful and slow the exhaust system hit the ground with a big bang! The whole exhaust system (including the catalyst) was damaged and the tail pipe mountings damaged the subframe, too. Even the panel under the rear bumper was deformed. Looked like a time expensive repair job - and the end of the MER-Competition! But my local Mini workshop - Mini Restore Cologne - helped me out with one of their show cars: a nearly brand new multipoint injection Mini Cooper (almost standard version). THANKS !!! |
