SLALOM RACE
|
|
|
|
The attraction at the IMM 1996 in Rodenkirchen: The Slalom-Race for everybody who wanted to join the competition! This took place on sunday morning, outside the village of Rodenkirchen on the parking lot of a huge shopping center. As you see, the tight course was a real challenge to the participants, both drivers and cars! |

I always thought the most important things for successful slalom-driving were a good time result and a cool driving style. But I guess for the drivers the biggest difficulty was to find the right way through the course. This might be the reason why one of the competitors started with a dog (hound-dog?), a co-pilot (to read the map?) and two bicycles (T-cars?) on the roof. |

The
official comments were made by a team of experts at the edge of the racing-circuit:

Unfortunately
the feeling in the crowd didn't quite want to rise. Despite
the high-tec equipment for the time-measuring and a quite good organization
I missed some little things which would have make it all more attractive
to the people. For example an announcement or a display of the results
and the actual standings and maybe an introduction of the participants
(cars and drivers).
Maybe the poor atmosphere was also caused by the long night before the race? But nevertheless a lot of people were able to drive, the parking-area filled up quickly. By the way - some of the people confused the parking-area with the slalom-course - didn't they? |

Some
of the participants may have taken it too seriously. But because of a low
center of gravity (you see, there wasn't so much stuff above the
shoulder line) this self made speedster made a good show!
|
To the great delight of the crowd some of the more ambitious pilots used their handbrake in the tight U-turn curves. |

Looks like my first Mini -but it's a 1,3 Cooper-S (carburetor-type) from Germany. |
And
who was the winner? - Sorry, I really don't know. But is that important anyway?
Next time I'll try it, too - maybe. But only after a long secret training session! |
